The article reviews contemporary use of artificial intelligence in civil engineering and architectural design. Architectural knowledge should be closely associated with the development of CAD skills, particularly at the initial stage of creative search and acceptance of the final variant.
The article provides a brief overview of the history of information technologies and a classification of methods and principles underlying CAD-based architectural problem solving.

ON THE LANGUAGE OF FORM GENERATION DESIGN LANGUAGE IN ARCHITECTURE

The need to take design ideas further down the road at the search and decision-making phase and to document all stages of this process implies the need for a system to record information obtained and generated by the architect. The main element of such a system is graphics. The system itself presents a designer’s graphic language. The aspiration to juxtapose the structure of the architectural form with the structure of the verbal language prompts a search for linguistic constructs that could adequately correspond to all types of the architect’s “language behaviour” and ultimately lead to a formalized description of the language of architectural forms and its categories, and to automation of design process phases using computer technologies. The author reviews the system of graphic representation participating in the architect’s search for an idea at the initial stage, identifies certain advantages of the method of graphic representation, suggest principles of graphic construction of architectural form and a structural model of the internal organisation of the designer’s graphic language.
