Architectural process as a fundamental category of architectural science

The term "architectural process" is considered as a key modern tool for describing the development of architecture and is examined from the perspective of its functioning in the professional publications about architecture and from the perspective of it as a subject of scholarly architectural research. The concept of architectural process in publications on architecture acts as a synonym for the concept of architecture, while in scholarly publications emphasis is placed on it as an event evolving over time. A new term is proposed, "architectural process structure", as one of the components of the architectural process. Understanding the category of architectural process from the standpoint of its structure is a stage towards understanding the development of latest architecture.

The directions of architectural theoretical thought in the above school are outlined.

The paper highlights the importance of studying theoretical architectural thought as a cultural phenomenon. The variety of architectural and urban planning theories in the period from the 1st century BC to the early 21st century needs to be reconsidered from the modern perspective using contemporary methodologies and tools. The development of a concept reflecting the evolution of architectural scholarly knowledge and its representation as an integral system are essential steps towards solving major problems faced by the fundamental architectural science and predicting its further development.

PORTUGUESE STRUCTURAL SYSTEM POMBALINO OR LEARNING FROM RUINS

This paper presents the main features of the Portuguese constructive system Pombalino. The constructive system, named after its founder, Marquis de Pombal, is an example of the first conscious anti-seismic measures applied in architecture and construction. It was formed on the basis of a deep scientific analysis of the consequences of the earthquake in Lisbon in 1755 and deserves attention and detailed study.

Based on Pombal's analytical work on the effects of the earthquake in Lisbon in 1755, necessary and sufficient conditions for preserving the stability of the architectural object have been determined. The main structural elements of the Pombalino system are described in the article. In addition, a typical Pombalino building is represented, the specifics of the work of this constructive system in solving seismic protection problems in urban planning are determined.

DOCTRINAL CRITICISM AS ONE OF THE METHODS OF ARCHITECTURAL CRITICISM

The article presents the results of studying and analyzing the fundamental work of the American professor of architecture and practicing architect Wayne Osborn Attoe entitled "Architecture and Critical Imagination" published in 1978, specifically, groups of architectural criticism methods proposed by this author. Special attention is given to the method of doctrinal criticism, which is one of the main in the standard group of methods. Tools for assessing architectural objects used within the doctrinal method of architectural criticism are proposed, and relationship between the theoretical postulates of W.Attoe with domestic theoretical developments in the field of architectural criticism is highlighted.

Проанализирован методический аспект выполняемого магистрантами задания на предмет наличия элементов архитектурной критики, а также обозначена важность критического подхода в учебном процессе.
